Check whether a photo needs an AI label at all

A new public page asks at most seven questions about one photo or video and tells you whether it needs a visible AI label, with the legal basis for the answer. Your answers stay in your browser.

There is now a page at /tools/label-quiz that answers the question that comes before every other tool here: does this particular photo need a visible AI label at all?

You answer at most seven questions about one file, and the answers you give decide which question comes next. It takes about a minute, needs no account, and asks for nothing about you.

Most of the time the answer is no, and the page exists partly to say so. Material generated before 2 August 2026 is outside the obligation and nobody has to audit an existing photo library. Standard editing, such as cropping, brightness and removing a background, is outside it too. A real product shown on a generated background stays unlabelled as long as the product itself is shown faithfully. The obligation covers a narrow slice: photos with a synthetic person in them, and generations that change how the product itself looks.

Every verdict carries its reason. Whichever of the four answers you reach, it comes with one sentence naming the Article or the guideline paragraph it rests on, rather than an unexplained yes or no. One of the four is "this cannot be decided from your answers", because some cases genuinely need a look at the image, and guessing on your behalf would be worse than saying so.

Your answers stay in your browser. They are not sent to us, they do not appear in the address of the page, and nothing about them reaches any third party. We count two things and nothing else: how many people opened the quiz, and how many finished it.

The result is a page of its own, laid out so you can print it or save it as a PDF in one click. It carries your answers, the verdict with its reasoning, what to do next, and a list of what you are not obliged to do, which is the part most worth keeping. If the verdict is that a label is needed, it links straight to the guide that shows what to write and where to put it on each sales channel.

This is an informational tool and does not replace legal advice. It works from your answers alone and does not know the circumstances of your case.
