Every image you download from this platform carries machine-readable metadata describing how the file was produced. It is the basis of the claim we make about our exports, and it is what a verification tool reads when someone checks one of your photos.
One path out of the platform did not carry it.
Use Original takes a product photograph you uploaded yourself and places it in the catalogue as a packshot, ready to download and publish. Until now that path produced no new file: the packshot pointed at the very same image you had uploaded, and that image had never been through the preparation step where the metadata is written. So the file left the platform as your untouched original — standing in the catalogue as a packshot, but carrying nothing that said where it had been.
That is fixed. A promoted photo is now copied, prepared and signed like any other packshot.
Your uploaded photo is not modified. The promotion works on a copy. The photograph in your product library keeps its own file, its own bytes and its own dimensions — preparing the packshot no longer reaches back into the picture you supplied.
The metadata does not call your photograph AI-generated. It records that this platform converted the file, which is all that is true about it. The picture is yours, and nothing in the file claims otherwise.
Two things to expect from the file itself:
- It is a JPEG. Promoted packshots go through the same conversion as every other packshot, so a promoted PNG comes back as a JPEG and its size differs from the file you uploaded.
- Photos promoted before 22 August 2026 are unchanged. Nothing was rewritten retroactively; the packshots you already have keep the files they already had.
